Alviso Adobe Community Park

Location: Pleasanton

The site surrounding the Alviso Adobe is layered with California history representing four periods of significance: The oldest feature is a rock showing evidence of ceremonial use by Native American inhabitants. Next is an adobe house on Alviso family land, where the Alviso family lived during the second half of the nineteenth century. The same adobe house was later used by tenant farmers from 1898 to 1917. And last a prominent Pleasanton dairy operated on the site between 1919 and 1966.

The project included construction of two barn buildings, reconstruction of an adobe building, native and historically-interpreted planting, design of a curving pedestrian bridge, as well as an interpretive program. PGAdesign was prime on the project, leading a team which included: architect, adobe architect, structural engineer, civil engineer, mechanical and plumbing engineer, cost estimator and historically interpretive planner. PGAdesign was retained to complete master planning, construction documents and construction administration.
