Bechtel Engineering Center Access

Location: University of California Berkeley

Project Type:

The University of California, Berkeley, campus landscape architect approached PGAdesign to solve one of many access problems in the historic core of the campus. Here, in front of the Bechtel Engineering Center and several surrounding facilities, hillside conditions with steep grading complicated access to and amongst the buildings.

PGAdesign devised several iterations of design before arriving at a preferred solution. The new approach includes a series of ramps with a built-in overlook above Memorial Glade. The ramp design uses stainless steel handrails and integrates the design with the surrounding planting.
