Bechtel Engineering Center Access

Location: University of California Berkeley

Project Type:

The University of California Berkeley campus landscape architect came to PGAdesign to solve one of many access problems in the historic core of the campus. Steep grading in front of the Bechtel Engineering Center and access to several surrounding facilities was complicated by the hillside conditions.

PGAdesign came up with several iterations of design before arriving at a preferred approach. The approach includes a series of ramps with built in overlook looking out over Memorial Glade. The ramp design uses stainless steel handrails and integrates the design in to the surrounding planting.
