River Oaks Pedestrian Trail

Location: San Jose and Santa Clara


PGAdesign was the design lead for the landscape portion on this one mile pedestrian bicycle link from North First Street Light Rail in San Jose across the Guadalupe River to a Santa Clara neighborhood retail district. As part of the placemaking design, PGAdesign created resting nodes with interpretive signs at 800-foot intervals to encourage pedestrian use.

The project included a 350-foot bridge, wayfinding signage, site furnishings, tree protection, bike/pedestrian ramps and steps, and other landscape elements. Several agencies reviewed the project including: VTA, City of San Jose, City of Santa Clara, and Santa Clara Valley Flood Control District.
