San Leandro Tech Campus

Location: San Leandro

Project Type:

Size: 7.5 acres

Partners: Westlake Urban with RMW Architecture & Interiors

The 7.5-acre development in downtown San Leandro, led by Westlake Urban, provides three office buildings, a parking structure, housing, and pedestrian connections to the adjacent BART station. The development is situated on a slender strip of land between the BART line and the Pacific Railroad tracks, the site of a former canning factory previously vacant for many years.

Now, the project’s first tenant is local software company OSIsoft, which has modernized San Leandro’s communication infrastructure with a fiber optic loop called Lit San Leandro. PGAdesign established a much-needed link from the campus to the Bay Trail, restoring access previously blocked by the BART station parking lot and creating a direct connection across the railroad tracks. They also created a new plaza, capable of hosting festivals and other events. A 55-foot-tall steel mesh statue named “Truth is Beauty” by artist Marco Cochrane (originally made for Burning Man) serves as the focal point for the project.
