Heat Island Effect Reduction
Strategies for diminishing the impact of heat islands play a significant role in efforts to reduce global warming. PGA’s design for Avalon Mission Bay Apartments incorporates an extensive on-structure garden and pavings with a high SRI index to reduce heat reflection. Another effective but low-cost approach is planting trees on the south and west sides of the building, which can reduce or eliminate the need for air conditioning in our Bay Area climate.
