Landscape Architect Position 1

Experience Required: 4 to 8 years professional experience

PGAdesign is looking to hire a landscape architect with 4 to 8 years of experience. We are seeking a creative professional who welcomes the opportunity to work on all aspects of a broad range of project types. Active projects include parks, urban design, high-density affordable and market-rate multi-family housing, municipal, streetscape, transit, educational, and historic preservation projects.

We are a fourteen-person firm of landscape architects based in Oakland, CA, for over 40 years. Most of our work is in California with a strong focus on the East Bay. Our close-knit team values the impact our work can have on our community. Our office is at the corner of 17th Street and Broadway, near the 19th Street BART station, in Oakland’s Uptown District. We are currently transitioning to working back in our office and community, but will consider part time work-from-home benefits.

PGAdesign has used Revit as our primary design software for the past 10 years. As an industry leader in implementing BIM for landscape architecture, we expect to train new staff on this software. Previous experience with Revit is not expected, just strong computer literacy and a commitment to ongoing learning.

Competencies:

  • Strong computer skills with willingness to be trained in Revit, AutoCAD, Enscape, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Ability to problem solve and work through design challenges.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s in degree in landscape architecture.
  • Landscape Architecture licensure in the State of California is a bonus, but not required.
  • Design skills including design of spaces, planting plans, and detailing of elements.
  • Strong technical skills and project management for design and construction, with high attention to detail.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordination of all project phases and schedules.
  • Proficient application of landscape architectural design standards, practices, and techniques.
  • Creation of conceptual design drawings through to construction documents.
  • Production of construction drawings in CAD, specifications, and permitting requirements for public and private clients.
  • Directing of project teams and multiple projects in different phases concurrently.
  • Potential to lead firm direction, direct professional development of Associates, and build a better workplace.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design landscape spaces from start to finish, directly supervised by principals.
  • Execute all phases of design: conceptual design, schematic design, selecting materials and products, developing construction details, producing construction documents, and participating in construction observation.
  • Perform the above tasks with increasing independence, while actively seeking guidance from senior associates and principals.
  • Assist with project management, coordination, client interaction and public process.
  • Work on several projects at once, while actively communicating to balance workload.
