What do you do at PGAdesign?

Every day varies here and I work on a diverse set of projects from the conceptual design to construction phases. I manage projects and continue to have an impact through design.

What do you like about the firm?

The firm is very connected and genuine which is refreshing. I like how they approach projects and think outside the box to problem solve. Also, I enjoy how everyone cares about helping one another to push themselves and finish projects.

Where did you go to school?

I earned my Bachelor of Science Architecture from the University of Virginia. I received a Master of Landscape Architecture from Florida International University specializing in Urban and Environmental Design.

What is your favorite landscape space?

For natural spaces I really love the Everglades in Florida; it’s always a unique experience when I visit that area and it brings a sense of peace and relaxation. For built spaces, I really enjoy the Promenade du Paillon in Nice, France. I love how it connects people with the city and green spaces implanting art, sculptures, and play structures through design.

Why did you decide to go into landscape architecture?

I decided to get into this field because I wanted to work on projects that focused on blending the elements of art, design, and the environment to have an impact on communities and public spaces.

What do you enjoy most about landscape architecture?

I love how landscape architecture can give an identity to a space and help people connect to their surroundings in a unique way. So much of life is spent outside and it’s nice to have a hand in designing those spaces.

What do you enjoy doing outside the office?

I love art and music. Drawing, painting, going to see concerts or a good show. I also like galleries and museums and exploring different farmers markets in the city when I can. I like to stay active, going the beach with my dog and traveling places. I also enjoy soccer and kayaking.

What’s your favorite hiking trail?

La Jolla Trail in San Diego was a great experience. Beautiful views and a good workout with the beach right by the trail.

What’s your favorite urban spot?

Currently I really enjoy visiting Leimert Park Village in Los Angeles. There are always events on the weekend with music celebrating the community. It’s anchored by Leimert Plaza Park and the Vision Theater.

Are there any landscape spaces you feel deserve more attention?

Underserved and neglected communities in urban and rural areas are spaces I would love to give more attention to.

What was your favorite book you’ve read lately?

I’ve been trying to read more novels lately and Jazz by Toni Morrison was the last book I read. I really loved how it was written and how it blends music with heritage and expression.

What was your favorite recent vacation?

I went to Baltimore for a friend’s wedding, and it was nice to explore the city with close friends and celebrate love with people I’ve known for a long time. I also went to Puerto Rico last year and it was beautiful to see different parts of the island and how naturally stunning it is. Would love to go back and explore more.

If you could meet anyone, not bound by time or place, who would it be?

I would love to meet older people in my family that came before me to understand more about my family/heritage. I really love history and love learning so that would be very special.
