San Bruno BART
Location: San Bruno
PGAdesign was part of the team working on the BART expansion along the railway corridor south of San Francisco. At the San Bruno station, PGAdesign provided design/build landscape architectural services that enhanced the Station’s unique character with individualized gateways and planting. The landscaping design provides wayfinding assistance for passengers emerging from the station, and improves visibility and safety at the bridge and tunnel intersection. Landscape elements also provide a buffer between the station and adjacent neighborhoods.
To mitigate the impact of urban stormwater runoff, PGAdesign used biofiltration as an innovative approach, collaborating with civil engineers on the design and selecting plant species to filter stormwater and minimize maintenance costs.
