Location: Oakland
Size: 2 acres
Partners: Signature Properties
Balancing multiple needs, PGAdesign applied a collection of design strategies to protect homeowners’ privacy while optimizing public access along the estuary. The public design reflects the history of this evolving neighborhood, utilizing maritime artifacts left by the demolition company that formerly occupied the site. The developer embraced PGAdesign’s suggestion to embed chains, gears, and a historic anchor into the surrounding landscape. PGAdesign coordinated with designers of two adjacent parcels, as well as with the staff of the Bay Conservation Development Commission. BCDC featured PGAdesign’s plan in its guidelines as an effective example of improving public access.
