Estuary Cove/Iconco Commercial Building Trail Improvements
Location: Oakland
Size: 2 acres
Partners: Signature Properties
Balancing multiple needs, PGAdesign applied a mix of design strategies to protect homeowners’ privacy while optimizing public access along the estuary. The public design retains a flavor of the past for future appreciation in this evolving neighborhood, utilizing maritime artifacts left by the demolition company that once occupied the site. The developer followed PGAdesign’s suggestion to embed chains, gears and a historic anchor into the surrounding landscape. PGAdesign coordinated with designers of two adjacent parcels, as well as the staff of the Bay Conservation Development Commission. BCDC featured PGAdesign’s plan in its guidelines as an effective example of how to improve public access.
