Jack London State Historic Park CLR

In examining the cultural landscape of Jack London State Historic Park, PGAdesign adopted a holistic approach so visitors may comprehensively understand its evolution. Working with Vonn Marie May’s historic research and narratives, PGAdesign conducted field observations to record existing conditions and analyze and evaluate the Jack London Ranch landscape. PGAdesign also studied historic maps, documents, aerials, and other photographs to develop plans depicting the core historic area during four distinct periods, from its pre-London use as a vineyard to its early days as a California landscape.
The resulting maps show landscape characteristics such as views, land use, spatial organization, circulation, and vegetation. This body of work informs the treatment recommendations for the Jack London landscape.
