Julia Morgan School for Girls
Location: Oakland
PGAdesign developed a master plan for the Julia Morgan School for Girls, located in Ming Quong Hall, a 1924 Julia Morgan building on the Mills College campus. PGAdesign’s plan reconceived the site as a stimulating and intensively used play environment. The project involved executing contemporary changes in a historical context, and PGAdesign solved circulation conflicts involving vehicles by separating and clearly defining spaces for different functions. Expanded classroom and shop spaces were added for a growing student population. Outdoor eating, playing, and performing spaces were created to take full advantage of the verdant campus grounds.
PGAdesign incorporated student, staff, and community input gathered at classroom workshops and a Master Plan Open House.
