Julia Morgan School for Girls
Location: Oakland
The Julia Morgan School for Girls is in Ming Quong Hall, a 1924 Julia Morgan building on the Mills College campus. PGAdesign developed a Master Plan that reconceived the site as a stimulating and intensively used play environment. Executing contemporary changes in an historical context, we solved circulation conflicts involving vehicles by separating and clearly defining spaces for different functions. Expanded classroom and shop spaces were added for a growing student population. Outdoor eating, playing and performing spaces were created to take full advantage of the verdant campus grounds.
PGAdesign incorporated student, staff and community input by conducting classroom workshops as well as a Master Plan Open House.
