Willows Courthouse
Location: Glenn County
Partners: City of Willows
PGAdesign was part of the project team that renovated and expanded the existing one-courtroom historic courthouse in the city of Willows. In keeping with the U.S. Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties, the team updated the historic courthouse into a modern, secure building and enlarged it to include two additional courtrooms and other essential court spaces. With the renovation, the superior court can centralize its services through consolidating preexisting court operations with those in the Orland Branch Courthouse and leased Self-Help Center facility.
PGAdesign integrated a new entry ramp to historic courthouse, maintaining the historic stairs and palms. They also created secure parking for the judges, including shade-providing trees planted within soil cells to allow for tree maturation of the trees.
The project utilized the Construction Manager at Risk delivery method. The renovated and expanded historic courthouse hears all case types and provides a full range of court service to all residents of Glenn County.
