Casa Arabella, a 94-unit affordable transit-oriented development in Oakland’s Fruitvale District, was recognized by the Urban Land Institute as a finalist in its 2021 Americas Awards for Excellence. The prestigious Awards for Excellence competition highlights projects exemplary in design, planning, economic impact, and sustainability, among myriad other achievements.
Developed through a partnership between EBALDC and The Unity Council, Casa Arabella prioritizes families and formerly homeless veterans of the U.S. military. It forms part of the Fruitvale Transit Village, and is the first BART transit-oriented-development conversion project in PGAdesign history. Within the site, PGAdesign designed outdoor courtyards that include a community garden and a play area accommodating children of all ages.
