What do you do at PGAdesign?

My work involves a variety of projects ranging from school improvements to housing to trail development.

Where did you go to school?

I received my Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. I transferred to Cal Poly from City College of San Francisco, where I first studied Child Development and later Horticulture.

Why did you decide to go into landscape architecture?

After running a small gardening business in San Francisco, where I designed, installed, and maintained residential gardens for about a decade, I wanted to go back to college and learn more about design and design theory so that I could expand my work to projects for the general public.

What is your favorite landscape space and why?

My favorite landscape space is a spot on a San Francisco hill that has a boulder regularly painted by an unknown artist. It’s a canvas for whimsy, sport events, world events, political messages, and seasonal celebrations, with the city view as a backdrop. I appreciate it because this painting routine has created a sense of place for the neighborhood, and it happened, and is still happening, organically, without any formal planning. It’s always a surprise of what one will find there—the creativity is endless. I especially like to observe other people discovering the boulder.
