AVA 55 Ninth
Location: San Francisco
This 273-unit market-rate apartment complex, targeted at the tech-worker market, sits across the street from Twitter’s headquarters in the transitioning mid-Market neighborhood of San Francisco. PGAdesign focused the landscape design around two courtyards and the incorporation of recycled materials, such as the recycled blue glass in a gabion wall. A cistern collects stormwater for irrigation. The project achieved LEED Gold.
Stripes of black and white rock alternate with dramatic plantings, providing a contemporary feel. A playful, bold paving pattern helps define the placement of key elements. An outdoor movie wall shields outdoor cooking and dining spaces from the neighborhood’s strong winds.
