Alviso Adobe Community Park

The site surrounding the Alviso Adobe embodies four significant periods of California history. A rock reveals the site’s oldest human trace, indicating ceremonial use by Native American inhabitants. Much later, in the second half of the nineteenth center, the Alviso family, who lived on the land, constructed an adobe house. The house was later used by tenant farmers between 1898 and 1917. Finally, a prominent Pleasanton dairy operated on the site between 1919 and 1966.
PGAdesign led the project that included the construction of two barns, reconstruction of an adobe building, native and historical planting, design of a curving pedestrian bridge, and an interpretive program. The team, directed by PGAdesign, comprised an architect, adobe architect, structural engineer, civil engineer, mechanical and plumbing engineer, cost estimator, and a historically interpretive planner. PGAdesign was retained to complete master planning, construction documents, and construction administration.
