I-580 Castro Valley Redwood Road Interchange
Location: Castro Valley
Partners: Caltrans/ Alameda CTC
This highway interchange project reconfigured the existing on- and off-ramps to reduce congestion on Redwood Road and Castro Valley Boulevard. During the preliminary engineering phase, PGAdesign prepared four simulations that illustrated how the landscape design would improve the existing condition and help mitigate for the loss of three houses and mature trees. Once the environmental phase was complete, PGAdesign designed and prepared the planting and irrigation plans, specifications, and estimates for the project. Part of the project removed two existing off ramps to create new areas of open space, where PGAdesign’s planting design created a naturalistic landscape. PGAdesign worked closely with the project engineers to select appropriate species for a large on-site stormwater basin, making sure to avoid negative impacts on an adjacent creek.
