Oakland Hebrew Day School

PGAdesign played a key role in all phases of development of Oakland Hebrew Day School’s expansion onto adjacent land. PGAdesign gave presentations to the board of directors, worked with the City of Oakland on design review, and led a team of sub-consultants in managing construction of a student recreation area.
PGAdesign’s design incorporated seven species of plants with religious significance, as requested by the school, and benches hand-crafted from recycled trees by a local artisan. Play-area turf is artificial, reducing maintenance costs and water use. A trellis provides shade for students at lunch or recess, and the pavement beneath the trellis is embellished by an undulating band of seeded recycled glass. Planted terraces further enhance the setting.
