Oakland Slow Streets

PGAdesign developed over 20 traffic circle and bulb-out plantings along various streets in Oakland. The designs were part of OakDOT’s Slow Streets Program, which strives to slow vehicle traffic and provide more space for walking, biking, and other activities beyond crowded sidewalks, particularly to meet the demands for healthy active transportation and physical activity during the Covid-19 pandemic. PGAdesign devised a thoughtful, drought-tolerant plant palette because irrigation could not be installed.
