UC Berkeley Campanile Glade
Location: University of California Berkeley
After identifying a complex design issue as part of its Landscape Heritage Plan, the University of California, Berkeley, relied on PGAdesign to find landscape solutions for the multifaceted challenges presented by its Campanile Glade.
Campanile Glade, located within the classical core of the campus, forms the intersection between four separate campus areas. Three areas represent different architectural periods: the curvilinear picturesque-Olmsted era, the rectilinear Beaux Arts era, and the simplified, ornament-free Modern era. PGAdesign developed several design schemes respecting and integrating each period and style. The design also preserves some existing trees and ensures ADA-compliant access across the site’s significant grade change.
